Judicial system goes digital in Covid times

The judicial system, which is considered as one of the most important pillars of democracy saw itself going digital to impart justice amid the coronavirus pandemic.

Following the imposition of lockdown, a three-judge bench comprising CJI Bobde, Justices DY Chandrachud and L Nageswara Rao invoked Article 142 of Indian Constitution and framed guidelines for smooth functioning of courts by adopting Video Conferencing techniques for extremely urgent matters.

New Delhi: Senior journalist turned entrepreneur Anuranjan Jha launched ‘Lauk,’ a video conferencing and web streaming platform and solution purely made in India for Indians.

“It’s ‘to India, by India and for India.” It offers a general video conferencing platform as well as ‘Lauk Classroom’ for educators and ‘Lauk Studio’ for live streaming, webinars, and other services, Jha said.

Washington: China’s territorial claims in Bhutan and the recent incursion into Indian land are indicative of their intentions, US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo said on Thursday, adding that Beijing under President Xi Jinping was trying to find out whether other countries are going to push back.

Indian and Chinese troops have been locked in a bitter standoff in several areas along the Line of Actual Control in eastern Ladakh since May 5. The situation deteriorated last month following the Galwan valley clash that left 20 Indian Army personnel dead.

Intelligence officials confirmed in recent days that foreign actors are actively seeking to compromise the private communications of “US political campaigns, candidates and other political targets” while working to compromise the nation’s election infrastructure.

Foreign entities are also aggressively spreading disinformation intended to sow voter confusion heading into the fall.
